Sean Griffin: An Artist and a Craftsman

From graphic design to landscape painting to custom cabinetry, Sean Griffin has travelled a creative path to become a site manager and lead carpenter for CMG. Now, for projects as diverse as a stately historic home with exquisite custom millwork to a minimalist contemporary residence, Sean brings his creativity to fruition every day for CMG clients.Growing up in the Ohio River Valley in West Virginia, Sean knew as a child that he was an artistóa passion that his parents encouraged as he went to Mississippi State to study graphic design and photography. His career in design took him to New York, where he became an art director in the garment industry. Seeking something new, he eventually left New York and pursued landscape painting in DC for several yearsóall while cultivating a love of woodworking in his spare time. Before Sean knew it, his free-time passion became his full-time career as he built his own cabinet business and then teamed up with a premiere fine cabinetry and woodworking shop in DC. It was there that he met the CMG team.”Sean worked with CMG as a subcontractor for several years,” Ken Sugarman, CMGís Managing Principal, said. “Now as a managing member on our team, our customers benefit daily from his extensive expertise and his excellent craftsmanship.””I take a lot of pride in my work and I pay attention to the details,” Sean said. “I never want to be at a point where Iím not learning. At the end of the day all our projects turn out beautifully because we all work togetheróthe architect, owner, and CMG. We all up everyone elseís game.”CMG consistently provides opportunity for creative challenges. Many design choices must be made on the spot, all while Sean manages a team of subcontractors to ensure the highest quality. Creativity is not only needed, itís expectedóand it is that kind of atmosphere that continually fuels Seanís artistry and craftsmanship to inspired results.
