Loren Leroy: Producing Perfection

How are making music and brewing craft beer related to flawlessly orchestrating CMG jobs from start to finish? They all involve creativity, passion and the ability to inspireótraits that Loren Leroy, CMGís award-winning director of construction services, brings to every single job at CMG.Loren has been involved in music for his entire life, playing drums since the age of six. Percussion is considered the backbone or the heartbeat of a musical ensemble, so itís no surprise that Lorenís expertise at CMG flows perfectly from his musical background. He was a house engineer at DCís infamous 9:30 Club in the early 90s, and even then he merged his passions by doing a lot of the construction work at the club when they moved to their current location. Before his 9:30 Club days, Loren worked as an electricianís apprentice in the late 70s and then moved into all aspects of hands-on construction. He studied architecture in college but quickly concluded that he was not cut out for a desk job. He shifted to small business administration and now blends his knowledge of business management with his extensive construction experience as he creates and manages the timelines for all CMG jobs and schedules every single person in the field.ìI really like the client contact,î Loren said about his favorite part of working at CMG. ìI like looking back at a job and knowing that we executed it well and took great pains to make sure that it was not an unpleasant experience for the client. I like creating friendships and relationshipsóit makes it more than a job.îLoren brings his experience and inspiration to the CMG staff and subcontractors that he manages daily, training them to solve their own problems and empowering them with the individualized motivation that each needs to succeed. This winning combination earned Loren the Top Production Manager of the Year award from Remodelers Advantage, an international organization for remodelers and renovators.ìWeíve always known what a stellar production manager Loren is and we are delighted that the industry is recognizing his exceptional performance,î Ken Sugarman, CMGís Managing Principal, said. ìCMG is truly fortunate to have someone of his caliber as our director of construction services.îBetween continuing to play drums for DC bands and spending quality time with his wife and three young children, Lorenís life outside of CMG is rich. To make things even more interesting, Loren has added the hobby of brewing beerówhich he claims is his ìretirement plan,î or his next adventure in life. Craft beer enthusiasts take note: Life will most certainly be tastier should the fruits of that labor turn out as beautifully as the jobs Loren produces for CMG.
